Services

Community physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy as well as dietetic advice are available to you through referral by your doctor. We have direct access to x-ray facilities and ultrasound scanning at hospital.

Services Offered At The Surgery

We strongly support the emphasis and trend towards health education. Each person is largely responsible for his or her state of health. Prevention is better than cure and many serious conditions can be prevented by a healthy lifestyle without the need for drugs. In our opinion the best time to offer help and encouragement in this regard is at the normal consultation. Within this setting we offer the following:

Primary Prevention

Eg advice on smoking, alcohol consumption, diet and immunisation.

Screening

Eg blood pressure checks, cholesterol checks, cervical smears etc.

Antenatal and postnatal care for patients

Pregnant ladies can choose, through discussion with their GP, the type of care they would prefer. This may be:

  • Shared care with the hospital and GP
  • Care by a midwife-led team at the hospital
  • Private care

Your GP will provide you with further information on antenatal and postnatal care.

Family Planning

All partners have experience in giving advice in this area. There is a partner at the centre specially skilled at fitting coils (intra-uterine devices).

Maternity

All partners provide antenatal and postnatal care within normal surgery. This is usually on a shared basis with local maternity hospitals.

Minor Surgery

Minor surgery procedures can be carried out by some partners.

The vaccination is available in October; please contact the practice to make an appointment.

Blood Monitoring

The practice provides blood monitoring for patients on warfarin and also for patients on drugs used for the treatment of arthritis and chronic bowel disorders, such as:

  • Penicillamine, Auranofin, Sulphasalazine, Methotrexate and Sodium Aurothiomalate
  • Smoking Cessation Therapy

Please speak to your GP regarding smoking cessation therapy. Your GP can prescribe Nicotine Replacement Therapy and can provide you with smoking cessation literature.

Carers

If you are caring for a chronically ill family member or friend, your GP can provide you with information on the support available to you in this very important role.

The Practice are currently experiencing an extremely high volume of calls as they deal with unprecedented demand on their service.

You can help with this by choosing an appropriate time and means to contact the Practice for your query i.e. use the answerphone or online service for script orders, only phone for results between 3-4.30 pm and choose a later time in the day to phone the practice for any general enquiries.

Your Practice team are dealing with a workload which far outstrips capacity, please be understanding of the daily challenges which they face to deliver services to you.
